A 2004 Time Out London face for poetry, Nii Ayikwei Parkes has had a lauded and varied literary career yet retains a disarming humility and enthusiasm for his work. He is equally at ease in front of a chorus of giggling four-year-olds as he is speaking in front of a crowd at Trafalgar Square (as he did at the request of the Mayor of London in the wake of the 7 July 2005 bombings in the UK’s capital city). Since his departure from the corporate world in 2001, Nii has earned recognition as a poet, novelist, playwright, sometime-broadcaster and curator of literary and cultural events. He is a member of the Ghana Association of Writers, the African Writers Abroad chapter of International PEN and the Society of Authors. Nii is a spokesperson for Booktrust’s Bookstart programme for young readers and is represented by the leading literary agency, David Godwin Associates.
